Tranquil Resort is a luxury plantation resort in Wayanad, Kerala, set on the 400-acre Kuppamudi Coffee and Spices Estate at Kolagappara, Ambalavayal. A Boutique Plantation Resort on a Working Coffee Estate
Tranquil Resort is a boutique plantation resort on one of Wayanad's older coffee and spice estates. The estate has been in coffee for over a century, opened by British planters, later held by Dutch owners, and under its current ownership since 1994. The hosts, Ajay and Nisha Mathulla, live on the estate.

One Private Pool, One Shared
The Pool Villa has a private pool in its own grounds. Every other room type uses the resort's shared swimming pool beside the gardens and dining hall, 3.5 feet at the shallow end and 5.5 at the deep end, with a jacuzzi alongside.
Rooms for Families
Families take the Serenetree Tree Villa, the Pool Villa or the connected Planters Garden Rooms, whose five doors open onto a single shared verandah. The Tranquilitree Tree House does not accept children under 7.
Ten Trails, an Ayurvedic Spa and 130 Bird Species
Ten walking trails are mapped across the 400-acre estate, from half-hour strolls to two-hour hikes, alongside a swimming pool, an Ayurvedic spa with trained therapists, and a tree deck lounge for yoga, reading, carrom and board games. Over 130 bird species have been recorded on the property.
Trails are named for their difficulty and are self-guided: The Teaser, The Coffee Walk, The Braveheart, The Indiana Jones. A birding guide can be arranged with notice. Cooking sessions and foraging walks are available on request with advance notice, and are chargeable.
Farm-to-Table Dining from the Estate Gardens
Dining is farm-to-table Kerala and South Indian cooking from the estate's own gardens, served as a daily-changing spread so no dish is repeated during a stay. The kitchen is led by host Nisha Mathulla, who is IHM-trained, with a head chef who has worked here for over twenty years.
Bread is baked here. The jams and pickles are made here. Most meals finish with Arabica or Robusta grown, picked, roasted and ground on this estate.
When to Visit Wayanad
October to May is the main season for Wayanad, with the clearest weather from December to February. The southwest monsoon runs June to August. January to March is the coffee harvest.
Getting to Wayanad
Kozhikode (Calicut) International Airport is 50 to 60 km away, a 1.5 to 2.5 hour drive. Kannur International is about 99 km. From Bangalore the resort is 270 to 280 km, roughly five hours driving, six to seven with a Mysore stopover.
Wayanad has no railway station of its own, so the last leg is always by road. There is free private parking at the resort.
How the Estate Runs
Over 95% of the resort's hot water is heated without electricity. All drinking water comes from springs within the property. Food waste feeds the estate's biogas plants, and the entire fresh-water plumbing system is gravity fed with no pumps.

Great Hospitality!
Ajay is a gem of a host and he was kind enough to offer us a great room and also made us feel extremely comfortable at the place. The food spread was superb with a lot of options for both vegetarian and non – vegetarian guests. During our stay, not one dish was repeated. We are waiting to get back to Tranquil again. Just loved the whole experience.

Unique home-like experience!
Tranquil Resort is a unique home like experience within the lap of nature where you are surrounded by a beautiful coffee plantation and jungle teeming with flora and fauna. Ajay & Nisha and their staff make you feel at home and suddenly you become part of a large family with all the other guests as well. Amazing Stay!
We visited Tranquil once before but enjoyed it even more this time. Nisha & I welcomed us like old friends and always found time in their busy days to talk to us and offer advice when required. The staff too are great – attentive and caring but they don’t crowd you as in some places. And then there are the dogs…it is so special to be greeted by them and accompanied on your walks too. We hope to return in the not too distant future.

Still experiencing the delights of Kerala
Despite Christine not feeling so well while were staying at Tranquil we did very much enjoy our stay. You both made us so welcome. The tree house was great and the free entertainment first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon kept us amused for a good hour or two if we weren’t by the pool. Tranquil is a very beautiful place to while away a few days and enjoy a walk through the coffee plantation or further. We both felt very relaxed your staff were lovely, catering for all our needs and it was a delight to meet your daughter at lunch.
